First green card produced in football

History was made this week in a Serie B(italy second tier) match when the referee showed a player green card.
According to Goal.com, officials had early admitted at the beginning of the season that the green card would be shown for a fair play moment and the player with the highest number of green cards at the end of the season would get an award.
Vicenza attacker Cristian Galano received Serie B's first-ever green card when he admitted that no Virtus Entella defenders had touched the ball when referee Marco Mainardi had incorrectly called for a corner kick.
It’s a symbolic award,” Serie B President, Abodi said. “It could be something very simple. The important thing is to recognize it when a professional does something exemplary.”
“We think that football needs positive messages,” a Serie B spokesman added.
“This sport is too often embroiled in controversy that drives people away from the stadiums.”
